Must try Sandwiches in Newport Beach!

August 9, 2018

Sandwiches are a subjective art form. Whether it’s basic peanut butter and jelly on Wonder Bread or an artisanal baguette filled with gourmet meats, cheeses, spreads and accoutrements, there’s a sandwich waiting to satisfy every appetite! Here’s a list of some great sandwich stops that Newport Beach has to offer. Whether you want something deliciously simple or over the top, we’ve curated a hearty list for you to celebrate National Sandwich Month this August!

Cest Si Bon

C’est Si Bon

A French restaurant that is also a bakery is more than likely going to produce some really good sandwiches. C’est Si Bon lives up to its translation “it is so good,” offering decadent, build-your-own sandwich options. Begin with your bread of choice – baguette, whole wheat baguette, croissant or whole wheat croissant – and pile it high with your favorite filling whether it’s vegetarian or curry chicken. Finally, choose your cheese, condiments and veggies to customize the perfect sandwich you’ve been craving.

Sessions West Coast Deli

Sessions encourages their patrons to chill, and by chill, they mean, order a sandwich, take it to the beach, and enjoy the West Coast lifestyle. Humanely and naturally raised meats on locally baked bread make these simple sandwiches anything but bland.  The perfect choice for the health-minded might be the Yogi, featuring fresh baked chicken, avocado, arugula, cucumber, marinated tomato and basil pesto between a French bread roll. Or, go big and hearty with The Beef, a bourbon-grilled flank steak sandwich topped with mint chimichurri, marinated tomato, sweet peppers, red onion, iceberg, avocado and cream cheese. With each menu item made-to order with fresh ingredients that are locally-sourced, Sessions takes sandwich making to the next level.

My Galley Cafe

My Galley Café, in the heart of Balboa, is the perfect spot to grab a sandwich and take a stroll on the boardwalk, listening to the music of the crashing waves. Their simple but tasty menu boasts both classic and specialty sandwiches, all for under $6! Classic lovers will find Turkey and Cheese, Grandma’s Chicken Salad and BLTs on the menu. If you’re looking for that hearty  sandwich, My Galley also offers Pastrami, Italian and Meatball Subs. So grab your sandwich and picnic on the beach for an ideal way to spend an afternoon.

A Market

A Market offers a unique selection of specialty items including fine wines, cheeses, savory breakfast items, house made baked goods and an array of both hot and cold gourmet sandwiches. Try The Green Machine layered with romaine, roasted chicken, pumpkin seeds, fire roasted peppers and Caesar pesto in a spinach flatbread. Or, go for their Roast Beef, filled with London-broil roast beef, Havarti, watercress, tomato, red onion and horseradish aioli on a rustic roll. More of the hot sandwich type? Their slow-roasted Pulled Pork with house-made coleslaw and bbq sauce on a brioche bun is sure to please. Really though, it doesn’t matter what you choose because A Market won’t disappoint!

Campus Jax

With a slogan like “Come improve your world one bite at a time,” how can you not be drawn to Campus Jax to curb your sandwich craving? They are dedicated to making great tasting, soulful dishes using high quality ingredients, all while also being drought sensitive and planet conscious. Campus Jax is also a jack of all trades with their express lunch menu for grab-and-go or a full service sit down dinner experience. Try the classic JAX Steak Sandwich, a grilled and roasted tri-tip sandwich topped with pepper jack and sautéed onion on a brioche bun, served with au jus and creamy horseradish. Or, go for a Cajun classic with the Louisiana Po’Boy made with andouille sausage, boneless breast of chicken, bell pepper, onion, dijon, mayo and romaine on a baguette. Now the only thing to decide is lunch or dinner? Or, maybe both?

Bruegger’s Bagels

Would this even be a real list if we didn’t include bagel sandwiches? Bruegger’s Bagels has perfected the New York Bagel for 35 years. With both breakfast and lunch bagel sandwich options, you’ll have a wide selection to choose from. Start the day with the Western Breakfast Bagel Sandwich made with a fresh-cracked egg, bacon, cheddar cheese, chipotle sauce, a mix of green and red peppers, and red onions all on an everything bagel. For a lighter option, try the Skinny Zesty Egg White Sandwich, made with egg whites, turkey sausage, Swiss cheese, and sundried-tomato spread on a skinny everything bagel. With breakfast wrapped up, grab a Pastrami and Everything sandwich with pepper coated pastrami beef, muenster cheese, arugula, seasoned tomatoes and dill pickles, all bound together with spicy deli mustard for lunch. Just like New York, but by the beach!

Moulin

Moulin is the place to go if you’re looking to be transported to a charming Parisian café. Filled with the aroma of fresh-baked artisan breads and pastries, Moulin is committed to delivering an authentic French experience for all the senses. Try the quintessential French Les Parisiens, a ham and cheese or butter sandwich. Or for something hot, select from Les Parigots; we love The Moulin, made with chicken pesto, heirloom tomatoes, and smoked mozzarella. Are you craving a sandwich now? Oui!

Pandor

With authentic French Artisan breads, viennoiseries (pastries), tartines, paninis and salads all using sustainable, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, Pandor should be at the top of your sandwich bucket list! Paninis and sandwiches come aplenty on their extensive menu that you’ll always be able to find something that caters to your love of French cuisine. The Grand Prix panini with prosciutto di parma, eggs, tomato, onion, olive, mozzarella and extra virgin olive oil is mouthwatering. Or, the Merguez Panini, a flavor bomb with kosher lamb, garlic mayo, harissa, tomatoes, onion, cheese and cornichons (aka sausage pickles). If you prefer a traditional sandwich, try the Turkey and Brie with avocado, mustard, mayonnaise, mixed greens tossed with their house made dressing, all artfully placed on a fresh baguette. Bon appetit!
