Undercover Summer

June 12, 2015

The sun is shining and the weather is neat here in Newport Beach just about 365 days a year. We all love a good dose of Vitamin D, but it’s necessary to have the right pieces to cover up with so not to get too much exposure. From clothing to hats to a full coverage bathing suit, we have you covered and they all can be found right here in Newport Beach.

In order to look chic and protected in your clothing it’s best to read the fabric protection factors. UV Protection Factor or “UPF” as it referred to is the Ultraviolet Protection Factor rating system which measures the UV protection provided by a particular fabric. In fact it’s very similar to the SPF rating system used for sunscreens. For example, a garment with a UPF of 50 only allows 1/50th of the UV radiation falling on the surface of the garment to pass through it. In other words, it blocks 49/50ths or 98% of the UV radiation.
Donna’s Perfect Dress from SPF Addict offers a performance rating of UPF 50+. We love the boat shaped neckline for maximum décolleté protection and adjustable sleeves that will transition from daytime sun protection coverage to a night time look. Layer it with a legging or wear it solo with a great pair of heels or with flip flops to the beach.

If you have the clothing covered and just need a little more protection for your face opt for a wide brimmed hat like the ones from Lovely Bird . They can be found at Newport Beach’s Bronzed Bunny, OC’s first and only organic spray tanning salon. Lovely Bird hats are made locally and come in a range of fabric, colors and styles. Whether you’re at a formal event or just running some errands, with a proper fit, a hat can be the one accessory that sets you apart, but they’re not just around to make you look stylish. Besides finishing off the perfect summer look they’re ideal to shield your face from the damaging rays of the sun.

With summer also come bathing suit season, but it’s a time to rejoice since the trends are going for more full coverage suits rather than the itsy bitsy bikini. SwimSpot in Fashion Island offers some of the best protection suits for whether you’re frolicking on the beach or riding the waves. They carry a revolutionary brand called Next , their suits are made with NextFlex®, a fabric that moves with you, protects you from the sun with UPF 50, and dries really quickly! To get the most protection, go with one piece suits and separates like the Zip Up One Piece Paddle Suit, separates like the Inner Chakra Surf Shirt And Good Karma Shorts, or a long sleeve one piece like the Good Karma Zip Up.
