What began a few years ago as American Express’ single-day effort to support small American businesses and help them attract more customers has evolved into an annual event — as well as a movement. Small Business Saturday, observed the Saturday after Thanksgiving, celebrates local, brick-and-mortar stores. When holiday shopping in Newport Beach this season, think small: The area boasts many mom-and-pop shops and specialty boutiques that will meet the needs of everyone on your list. A few will even offer surprise deals and incentives.

Olive Oil & Beyond

The culinary artist on your list will fall in love with this shop’s variety of extra virgin olive oils, fine vinegars, and gourmet groceries from around the world (pastas, marinades, and jams, to name a few) as well as elegant home and kitchen wares.
