Top Spots to View The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics

February 14, 2014

With the 2014 Winter Olympics well underway, you don’t want to miss even one minute of the exciting events. This year’s Olympic Games is full of firsts: it’s the first time that Sochi (a subtropical resort town) is hosting the Winter Olympics, making it the warmest city to ever host the winter games, and it’s also the first time that 12 winter sports events make their Olympic debuts.  Between these firsts and a handful of other fun facts, Sochi is shaping up to be full of can’t-miss historical happenings.

Sure you can kick back at home and watch them from your living room, but why not head out to a Newport Beach sports bar to cheer on your fellow Americans with a crowd of enthusiastic fans? Here in Newport Beach, we don’t get much of a winter season (no complaints here!), so seeing the Winter Olympics is a fun way for us to experience winter, without actually living in it. So gather some friends, grab a drink, and go for the gold as you watch Team USA go big and dream bigger.

The Porch

A local favorite known for their signature cocktails and eclectic eats, The Porch gears up for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi offering $9 Sochi Mules and other drink specials to get fans revved and ready for the games. Enjoy their Sunset Specials Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., which include $4 drafts, $5.50 wells, $2 off calls, and appetizers from $3-$6! With 18 HDTV’s inside and out, you won’t miss any Sochi action when you visit The Porch.

Rudy’s Pub & Grill

This Peninsula sports bar is a frequent hotspot for locals and is known for its rowdy, enthusiastic sports fans. During the 2014 Winter Olympics Games, rewards card members get double rewards points when the US medals, which can earn you discounts on food and beverages. Rudy’s is also offering $3 pints of Iron Fist, the bar’s beer of the month, and $1.50 Iron Fist pints if the US gets gold! Thirty plasma TVs and the biggest outdoor patio on the Peninsula make Rudy’s the number one pick for Olympic viewing.

Cabo Cantina

Join Cabo Cantina Feb. 7-23 for this year’s Winter Olympics and enjoy Happy Hour from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily, which includes 2-for-1 drink specials. If an Olympic brunch is more your style, Cabo Cantina is serving Bottomless Mimosas and Bloody Marys until 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Snack on fresh Mexican favorites such as nachos, tacos, and burritos as you view the events on one of the many extra-large HD Satellite TVs.

Hyatt Regency Newport Beach – Lobby Lounge

The Lobby Lounge invites you to show your support during the Olympic Winter Games and cheer on Team USA.  Go for the gold as you enjoy the Lounge’s  gold or amber ales, or grab some fellow sports fans and enjoy a bucket of five mixed beers for $25. The Lobby Lounge is not your average sports bar, but it’s ideal for those looking to relax and enjoy the Olympics in style. Comfortable couches fill the room and the space is never overly crowded, so you can kick back with a cold one and enjoy the festivities.

Woody’s Wharf

Its bustling atmosphere and American food classics make Woody’s the perfect place to enjoy the Olympic events. Happy Hour is from 3-6 p.m. and includes half-priced select appetizers, $3 draft beers, $5 select martinis and wine, and $3.50 well drinks. During commercial breaks, step out onto the patio and take in the fresh ocean breeze and the breathtaking views of the harbor.
