Eating Our Way Through Newport Beach Restaurant Week

Being self-acclaimed “foodies”, going out to eat is one of our favorite things to do. In all actuality, we consider it a hobby! New restaurants seem to be popping up every week here in Newport Beach, and our “must-try” list keeps getting longer and longer. (It’s a problem.)

Thankfully, Newport Beach Restaurant Week is here, and it’s the perfect excuse for us to cross a few spots off of our never-ending list! This 14-day dining event (January 14-27, 2019) highlights the vast culinary experiences Newport Beach has to offer, with prix-fixe menus for lunch and dinner that range from $10-$50. We’re well into the second week of NBRW, and we’ve already indulged in five incredibly romantic (and tasty) date nights. Here’s where we’ve gone so far, and where we think YOU should go too!

Get this. For NBRW, Hornblower Cruises are slashing their prices in half. That’s right – for $50, you can enjoy a 3-hour cruise around the Newport Bay – complete with a four-course meal, champagne, dancing, and more! Not only that – you get to cruise the bay on the Wild Goose, what was once John Wayne’s private yacht!

The Four-Course Prix-Fixe Specialty Menu features a Variety of Artisan Breads and Baguettes, the House Caesar Salad, Panko-Crusted Salmon, Captain’s Beef Short Ribs, and Flourless Chocolate cake. Not only are the portions hearty, but every course is mouth-wateringly delicious, and made to order! This is a date night opportunity you won’t want to miss, and it’s available on Friday and Saturday nights only – so make a reservation soon! (We just might go again!)

Five Crowns is one of those restaurants we’ve been wanting to try for years, but we’d been waiting for the right opportunity to splurge. Thanks to NBRW, we were able to have that bucket list three-course dining experience, for only $50 each! And boy… was it worth the wait!

From the moment you step into Five Crowns, you feel as though you’ve entered an old English inn. Pair the charming ambiance with warm hospitality, their famous prime rib, and an extensive wine and cocktail list, and you have the makings for a fabulous night out! Their 3-course NBRW menu features a variety of their house made salads, Pork Pot Pie, Rainbow Trout, Roasted Chicken Breast, and of course, their iconic Prime Rib dinner. And we’ve now learned that no evening at Five Crowns is complete without their signature CC Browns Hot Fudge Sunday! Hungry, yet?

Located inside the chic and inviting Fashion Island Hotel, Oak Grill is a cozy little oasis right in the heart of Newport Beach. Their menu consists of fresh, local ingredients coupled with one of the most extensive wine lists in the area – they have over 50 wines by the glass! It’s “relaxed coastal luxury” at its finest, and their NBRW menu is a steal!

For only $40, you can enjoy three outstanding courses – featuring their fresh Quinoa Garden Salad, Bucatini Bolognese or Chicken Piccata, and Apple Crostada for dessert! If the weather is nice, we suggest sitting outside on their tree-lined deck, where you can
feel the crisp, ocean breeze. You’ll feel like you’re on vacation!

If you’re looking for a romantic, candlelit restaurant with picture-perfect ocean views and a classic menu featuring fresh seafood and prime meats, this is your place. Located in the historic McFadden Building in Newport Beach, this elegant oceanfront restaurant boasts a spectacular view of the Newport Pier – and a truly unforgettable culinary experience! (We suggest going for an early dinner, so that you can catch the sunset!)

During NBRW, you can enjoy an extensive three-course dinner for $50, where you can sample their Crab Cake, Butternut Squash Soup, Petite Prime New York Steak, Petite Swordfish, Jumbo Shrimp Linguini, Jidori Chicken, and more. For dessert, we recommend their melt-in-your-mouth
Bread Pudding… you’ll thank us later!

Being avid Mexican food connoisseurs, Avila’s El Ranchito has been a local favorite of ours for years. Friendly service, large portions, unlimited chips and salsa, a fun and lively environment – you really can’t go wrong! Their Newport Beach and Corona Del Mar locations are running lunch ($15) and dinner ($30) specials during NBRW, and both are an extraordinary value. Our dinner consisted of the legendary Mama Avila’s Chicken Soup, Mole Pollo Enchiladas, and their signature Dulce Vida Fresca Margarita. That’s $30 well spent, if you ask us!

Newport Beach Restaurant Week goes through January 27th, so you still have ample time to take advantage of some of these amazing deals. And let us know where you end up, we’d love to hear!
