Newport Beach Approved Shows to Binge Watch

March 19, 2020

Newport Beach has been a film inspiration and set for Hollywood since the silent film era to the birthplace of the Real Housewives franchise. We know a thing or two about what makes entertaining TV to binge! We put together our top list of Newport Beach inspired shows plus a few of our favorite guilty pleasures and comedies to brighten your day!

Arrested Development

“There’s always money in the banana stand!” Arrested Development is inspired by Newport Beach locations from Lucille Bluth’s home at the Balboa Bay Club to the banana stand on Balboa Island. You’ll even catch G.O.B. riding around on his Segway down to the beach. Watching the wildly dysfunctional Bluth family will keep the tone light hearted at home. Available to stream on Netflix and Hulu!

90 Day Fiancé

As a global destination, we appreciate finding love all around the world! A guilty pleasure for a cult following, it’s not too late to catch up on over-the-top love stories that cross international borders. Cringe, laugh and indulge on 90 Day Fiancé. Beware: It’s easy to fall down the rabbit hole amongst all franchise spin-offs! Go to TLC’s site and on their app to view!

Dirty John

The true story from the shores of Newport Beach, this story captivated millions. Dirty John features actress Connie Britton as Debra, a single mom Debra thinks she has the idyllic life on Balboa Island with a man she *thinks* will complete it; except when the perfect man does show up, he does the exact opposite. Many locations are shot in Newport Beach, enjoy! Watch on Netflix now!

Christina on the Coast

Watch our favorite interior designer and local, Christina Anstead, navigate her new life including home, parenthood and career in Newport Beach. From house-hunting via duffy boat in Newport Harbor to hanging with Ant in the Back Bay, you’ll love seeing Newport Beach locations while transforming a new home in each episode. Catch all of the dynamic views of her hometown and get inspired by her unique, personal style on HGTV.

Dead to Me

Dead to Me follows two women with polar-opposite personalities in our area that bond over an unexpected tragedy. Filled with plenty of bottles of wine, sarcasm and female empowerment, Dead to Me is available to watch on Netflix.

Project Runway

Newport Beach loves style, fashion and all things trending! Need some wardrobe inspiration for spring? Watch up-and-coming designers compete in avant-garde themed episodes to create the latest trends in fashion. Project Runways is available to watch on Bravo.

Real Housewives of Orange County

The OG’s of the OC and founding show of The Real Housewives franchise, we can’t help but love to watch! The RHOC ladies on this show frequent places all around Newport Beach (Quiet Woman, anyone?) and we love to live the OC through our screens. The Real Housewives of Orange County is found on Bravo.

The Good Place

Our favorite mom and actress Kristen Bell takes us to The Good Place, a hilarious take on what happens to Eleanor, who believes she has been sent to “Heaven” incorrectly. Watch her awkwardly navigate the after-life on Hulu.

The Great British Baking Show

GBBS is too pure for this world and just the positive and community-minded show need right now.  With unique takes on classic British recipes, it might have you craving a scone and some tea. All episodes are available to stream on Netflix!

The OC

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention The OC, that put Newport Beach on the map for millions of millennial teen girls. Take a step back into the good ol’ days as you watch Ryan navigate a new high school, teenage angst and young love. All seasons available on Hulu. #marissaandryanforever
