Author Peggy Hesketh speaks – Newport Beach Library

Newport Beach Public Library Foundation is pleased to present author Peggy Hesketh, who will speak about her book, Telling the Bees.

Peggy Hesketh’s first novel, Telling the Bees, spans the arc of the twentieth century.  A never-married octogenarian beekeeper is haunted by the loss of his lifelong friend Claire, and by the secrets and silence that hovered between them for so long. As he pieces together the memories of their shared history, he will come to learn the painful truths about Claire’s life and the redemptive power of laying the past to rest.  Set in the transforming landscape of Southern California, it is a beautifully imagined novel about the far-reaching consequences of words left unspoken, the persistence of regret and the power of truth both to wound and to heal.

A long-time journalist, Ms. Hesketh teaches writing and rhetoric at the University of California, Irvine.  Her short story, “A Madness of Two,” was selected by Elizabeth George for inclusion in her anthology, Two of the Deadliest.

Ms. Hesketh will be interviewed by author Gordon McAlpine, whose most recent novel Hammett Unwritten is receiving high marks here and abroad.
