The Orange Empire Bonsai Society will present a two-day Bonsai (pronounced bones-eye) exhibition and show featuring a unique variety of bonsai trees, workshops and demonstrations at Sherman Library & Gardens on February 2 & 3.
On February 2 at 11 am: Bonsai expert Jason Chan of Eastern Leaf Bonsai (easternleaf.com) will teach a Bonsai Workshop where participants will learn the basics of tree designing, wiring, and re-potting of a Juniperus Prostrata (a Juniper tree). Workshop fee is $75 for members of Sherman Gardens, and $100 for non-members, and limited to 10 participants. Pre-registration required. While Jason is leading the workshop, members of the Orange Empire Bonsai Society will be available to help, lending their tools and offering tips. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy during the lunch break.
Workshop Fee - Friends $75/Non-Members $100
On Sunday, February 3 at 1 pm: Debra Mauzy-Melitz will demonstrate the making of a Saikei (a small landscape with multiple trees) with audience participation. All visitors to Sherman Gardens on that day are welcome to participate. Debra is a member of Orange Empire Bonsai Society and was a demonstrator at the Fullerton Arboretum during Green Scene.
A table with bonsai trees, small accents and pots will also be available for sale.
