A Roundup of Fall Happenings
On the West Coast, the foliage doesn’t always turn orange, but our drinks (and a slew of other products) do. And that’s all the go-ahead we need to officially declare the arrival of fall. Although we can’t resist a classic pumpkin spice latte, seasonal squash-flavored goodies are not all we look forward to. Fall also brings about fairs, carnivals, and delightful, orange-and-reddish merch to decorate our homes with. Here’s a shortlist of Newport Beach’s coolest fall happenings.
If you’ve ever set foot here, you must already know just how important details are to the folks behind this beloved garden center. So for an entire month, whenever Halloween rolls around, they transform the space into a playground for fright fiends. This year’s theme? “Malice in Wonderland,” a darker spin on a Lewis Carroll classic. Inside, you’ll find playing cards climbing up walls, giant mushrooms and a hodgepodge of whimsical decor. You’ll also spy things like “drink me” bottles, caterpillar figurines and all the queen-of-hearts decor you can possibly imagine. Spread over several rooms, it’s a shopping “experience,” in the fullest sense of the word—one that might just feel like a dream.
When it comes to must-do fall activities, it’s safe to say, attending a fall-themed fair tops the list. Especially if you have tots in tow, and even more so if you’re a kid at heart. Agree with the sentiment? Then mark your calendar for October 13 when the Environmental Nature Center hosts the 44th Annual Fall Fair. Expect a whole lot of activities the kiddos will go bananas over, like face painting, games and pony rides. They can also get up-close and personal with the event’s barnyard animals at the petting zoo. And of course, no autumnal shindig is complete without a proper pumpkin patch, where you can search for the best and roundest gourd in the lot to haul home.
Tis’ the season for cozy movie nights! But in Newport Beach, these types of evenings are elevated to another level.
