And whether you consider yourself crafty or a novice when it comes to painting, gardening or spinning the wheel, our city’s abundance of local classes are sure to help you hone your skills. This spring, you can try your hand at watercoloring or herb growing or even learn the art of lei making. Whichever medium you choose, get ready to roll up your sleeves and embrace your inner artist! Here are six classes and workshops you can take part in this spring.

Lido Marina Village

Featured Class: Lei Po’o Workshop by Hakus & Love

Date: Saturday, March 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Spring is in full bloom, and there’s no better time to try your hand at something new! Join Hakus & Love for a Lei Po’o Workshop at Lido Marina Village, where you’ll learn the art of lei making. Their experienced instructors will guide you in making your own traditional Hawaiian lei po’o using a beautiful selection of fresh tropical flowers.

Roger’s Gardens

Featured Class: Culinary Gardening – Grow Your Own

Date: Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3

Ever dreamed of having your own garden? At this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn to grow everything from herbs to small veggies and fruits! Turns out, you don’t need a large plot of land to grow all of your favorite ingredients. Roger’s GardensCulinary Gardening workshop will guide you in creating your own seasonal culinary garden in your own backyard.

Sherman Library & Gardens

Featured Class: Watercolor Class: Roses

Date: April 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.

If you’ve ever tried watercoloring, you know it looks easier than it is. Luckily, local artist Erna Van Dyk is here to break it down into simple steps. In this Watercolor Class at Sherman Library & Gardens, she’ll teach you how to paint a rose by combining watercolor techniques with a pen outline. This class is good for all skill levels, and each participant will take home their own painting!

Timree Gold

Featured Class: Timree Paint Club

Date: Monthly membership

If you’re looking to hone your painting skills, it’s time to join the Timree Paint Club! Featured Class: Play with Resin 3

Date: April 19, 25 and May 3 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. (three-week series)

Art + Soul Collective is a female-owned studio that teaches art classes using all mediums. This resin workshop will have you working with regular resin and UV resin to make items like hair clips, coasters, cups, gems, keychains and more. Both kids and adults are sure to love this unique three-week class!

Huse Skelly Gallery

Featured Class: Debra Huse – Capturing California’s Color

Date: April 12-14

If you consider yourself a more advanced painter, this Huse Skelly Gallery class led by Debra Huse is sure to give you a challenge. The best part? You get to practice your craft outdoors! Capturing California’s Color will take place in nature, where you’ll learn to paint the beauty that’s in front of you. Enjoy positive, upbeat and insightful instruction as you recreate the natural landscape of Newport Beach with gentle brush strokes.
