    Fats, Oil & Grease Program

City of Newport Beach
The City of Newport Beach adopted a Fats, Oil and Grease (FOG) Control Program in 2004 as an important component of the City’s wastewater system maintenance program. Additionally the City is mandated by the State of California to implement a FOG Control Program to prevent Sanitary Sewer Overflows. Per the Newport Beach Municipal Code Chapter 14.30.020, all Food Service Establishments (FSEs) must obtain a Grease Disposal Permit prior to the operation and discharge of FOG into the wastewater system. At this time, this is a no fee permit approved by the Municipal Operations Department Director in accordance with the application and guidelines of NBMC Chapter 14.30.

The City of Newport Beach will be sending a representative, ECIS, to visit your establishment to see how the program is working at your facility. As part of the inspection, ECIS will distribute and review a FOG Control Program Binder that will include a copy of the Municipal Code, a Grease Disposal Permit Application, and necessary tracking logs along with a physical inspection of the facility. The City provided FOG Control Binder is to be kept at the establishment and accessible to all employees.
The City appreciates your continued participation in the FOG Control Program to help us maintain a clean and reliable wastewater collection system.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the Municipal Operations Department at (949) 644-3011. Thank you for your compliance with this required program and your efforts to keep our community clean and safe.

All documents for the FOG Control Program are available on the City’s website, www.newportbeachca.gov/municipaloperations, under the Wastewater Division.
