Labor Day in Newport Beach

August 22, 2017

Ah, Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer fun. With the sun still shining and setting, there’s no better way to spend the long weekend celebrating the contributions of workers in this country than doing the opposite of labor and spending leisure time in the heart of Southern California.

For locals and guests alike, Newport Beach beckons with miles of pristine coastline as well as an active recreational harbor to enjoy. Here there is no shortage of sun and sea activities. Of course, the destination doesn’t disappointment when it comes to world-class dining and entertainment too. Below we highlight just a few ways to round out the weekend outside of the water.

3 Thirty 3Begin the holiday weekend with tasty cocktails and yummy small plates during happy Hour at 3-Thirty-3, a local’s favorite on the waterfront. Go ahead, indulge yourself with a gorgeous view of the Bay and get ready to enjoy the fun and relaxing weekend ahead. You work and you deserve a break.

Back Bay BistroOn Saturday (or Sunday), make your way over to Back Bay Bistro at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina for the ultimate brunch experience. From limitless mimosas to homemade chocolate chip pancakes, Back Bay Bistro offers the picture-perfect brunch spot for the entire family. And we mean the whole family as Back Bay Bistro has a dog-friendly patio. Pro-tip: We highly suggest making a reservation ahead of time!

Concerts on the GreenIn addition to feeding your hunger, Newport Beach’s free Concert on the Green series will feed your soul. The series features performances by local artists beginning at 6 pm on select Sundays at the Newport Beach Civic Center. This weekend the center welcomes Night Shift (the Citrus College pop ensemble). The high-energy ensemble performs the best of classic rock, R&B, and contemporary artists. Songs include hits such as Let’s Groove, Midnight Hour, You are the Sunshine of My Life, Superstition, and September. Parking is free parking, but we suggest arriving early. In fact, make an evening out of it and bring a picnic basket or enjoy the on-site food vendors.

Hornblower Cruises & EventsCome Monday, we won’t blame you if you want one last aqueous excursion. For that we recommend Hornblower Cruise’s Labor Day Beer & Bubbly Cruise. In addition to the salty breezes and abundant sunshine, enjoy relaxing background music, free-flowing champagne, craft beers, delicious brunch buffet, and gorgeous views of Newport Beach’s seven islands, luxury yachts, celebrity mansions, and delightful sea life.

Now that your weekend of rest and relaxation is planned, step away from the laptop and get out there and enjoy the remaining days of the summer solstice. We’ll see you on the beach shortly!
