Jazz at Sundown
Bringing’ the real original jazz hangout back to Newport Beach, meet for drinks, Saturday, April 18th at Balboa Inn.
Growing up in Newport, locals frequented the “Studio Cafe”- a nondescript jazz hangout at the end of the Balboa Peninsula where locals, students and savvy visitors could drop in and hear real, live unconstrained jazz. No washed and pressed smooth jazz versions were to be found here!
The iconic Balboa Inn was recently renovated to its original 1900’s Spanish design. The historic resort provides a perfect ambiance for live jazz experiences with respected musicians . The Resort is no stranger to celebrities such as former owner Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Newport Beach is home to great jazz events and Jazz at Sundown presents a new intimate experience, where tourists and locals alike can listen to great music steps from the sand.
This spring and summer Jazz at Sundown is pleased to present Alphonse Mouzon, who has performed with artisit ranging from Weather Report, Miles Davis to Santana; Matt Rhode, keyboard player for Prince, Jennifer Lopez; Bruce Lett, bass guitar for Bette Midler; and Brandon Fields, a sax player for Elton John.
