  • Fun Dad-Friendly Events: Father’s Day in Newport Beach

You just recognized mom on her special day. Now it’s time to honor dad with some fun Newport Beach events that he’s sure to love.

Wild About Wheels

Classic car and bike connoisseurs will be all revved up about these two awesome happenings:

First up is the Russo and Steele Newport Beach Collector Car Auction, which rolls out 400 European sports cars, muscle cars, restored classic cars, hot rods and customs from June 18-21 at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort. Expect some of the most sought-after cars in the world to be offered for sale, including everything from Ford Woody Wagons to a special red-white-and-blue 2013 Shelby Supersnake signed by hundreds of Americans to honor the wounded warriors of the Armed Forces and their families. The second annual event kicks off Wednesday at 10 a.m. with a day of auction previews, followed by a charity gala featuring dinner and dancing at 6 p.m. to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). Cars then can be inspected daily beginning at 10 a.m., from Thursday-Saturday, with auctions taking place at noon. Plenty of unique vendors and memorabilia also will be on hand throughout the event. For more information, visit www.russoandsteele.com.

Next up, the seventh annual Father’s Day Car & Vintage Motorcycle Show takes center stage Sunday, June 15, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at Balboa Bay Resort. Attendees can expect to see a top-drawer assemblage of more than 100 rare, classic, custom cars and vintage motorcycles, with everyone having the chance to vote for their favorite entries in various categories and trophies awarded at about 2 p.m. Other activities include a full-service bar, concessions, outdoor barbecue buffet lunch, balloon and temporary tattoo artists, sponsor booths and a Father/Son Pit Row Tire Changing Challenge. For details, check out www.balboabayresort.com.

Munchies Galore

While at Balboa Bay Resort, why not treat dad to Executive Chef Vincent Lesage’s Father’s Day `a la carte three-course brunch — along with spectacular harbor views — June 15 from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the recently renovated Waterline Newport Beach Restaurant.

Yet another chance to relax and enjoy the harbor is at hand via Hornblower’s Father’s Day Beer Brunch Cruise, launching at noon and including a two-hour yacht excursion complete with a buffet; free-flowing beer, champagne and sparkling cider; live entertainment; and souvenir pint glass for all of the dads.

Meanwhile, just a short drive south down Pacific Coast Highway, The Resort at Pelican Hill has two Father’s Day Brunches to indulge in: grill favorites and a three-course a la carte brunch menu created by Chef Derek from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Pelican Grill, plus an all-day brunch buffet prepared by Chef Micah at the Coliseum Pool & Grill.

Music and More

Need something to work off all of those epicurean delights? Enjoy 54 holes of Tom Fazio-designed golf, across three premier courses at the resort’s Pelican Hill Golf Club and Oak Creek Golf Club, or set sail on Pelican Hill’s new Father’s Day Picnic & Harbor Cruise — a two-hour trip around Newport Harbor on an electric Duffy boat and a choice of brunch, lunch, dinner or hors’ d’oeuvres.

Finally, for dads who appreciate some great tunes, spring for a ticket to see popular performers such as Natalie Cole and Kenny Loggins at this year’s Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Summer Concert Series. The 15-show series kicks off June 20 at 7:30 p.m. with Rick Springfield and continues through Oct. 10 at the Hyatt’s Back Bay Amphitheater.
